Environment impacts the decisions that individuals make and the choices they have in both subtle and larger ways.  Much study has gone into identifying the factors that influence young people and the likelihood that they will engage in high-risk behaviors.  The studies have identified forty risk and protective factors.  Some are dependent on the individuals and their families but others are affected by community conditions that are created by laws, policies, and attitudes.
