EVALUATE

The Mission of the Drug Free Coalition is to develop and maintain a coordinated substance abuse prevention effort for the citizens of Union County, particularly the youth.

To carry out this mission the coalition collects data on community conditions in Union County. We pay close attention to teen attitudes, use, and perception of harm towards alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, and other drugs. This data is collected using the Ohio Healthy Youth Environments Survey OHYES. This survey is conducted at least every other year. To see the most recent results of this survey follow this link.

Other community data points include the Community Health Assessment as managed by the Union County Health Department. This report provides insight into community habits, risk factors, and health conditions.

note the jump between 7th and 9th grade

We also review consequence data, the number of substance-involved accidents, crashes, and citations. The number of residents in need of treatment for substance use disorder. The impact on families, and housing stability, and the number of drug overdose events. This data informs the type of prevention strategy that we employ and the information that we share with the community.

We have seen a reduction in the use of alcohol, marijuana and prescription drugs over the last ten years.
